Young Champion Ambassador

CULTURAL & HUMANITARIAN

The “Young Champion Ambassador” project is a Colorado Springs Sister Cities International program that aims to engage the Colorado Springs High School and Local Community, create awareness for the Olympic Movement, and strengthen the sister-city connection with Ancient Olympia.

The student winner, aka the Young Champion Ambassador, will represent Colorado Springs in the Olympic Flame Lighting Ceremony, in Ancient Olympia, Greece, the birthplace and the authentic host site of the Olympics. The event takes place every two Olympic Years, three months before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, and therefore the first Olympia visit will occur in May 2016. The program has the potential to reach the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, as identified by our strategic planning.

The challenge is going to be operated through Colorado Springs School Districts that chose to participate, and only 9-11 grade students are eligible to compete. The competition will be in two stages and will include an essay and a presentation component. The program also includes “Young Champion Ambassador Tour”, several events that will take place during the preparation period before the Ancient Olympia trip.
